Foundations

The Foundations course is the start of your learning pathway to achieve the Virginia Sector Strategies and Career Pathways Academy Certificate and is a pre-requisite for taking the rest of the Sector Strategies and Career Pathways courses and their electives.

In advance of the course, participants will be asked to read overview materials available on the Academy site which will be designed to level-set understanding and prepare participants to engage in a more active in-person learning experience.  The Foundations course provides an overview of the state’s workforce development vision, the brand promise for Virginia Career Works, and the strategic role of sector strategies and career pathways in transforming service delivery by applying more demand-driven approaches to serving both businesses and customers.  Key agencies will be clearly identified, and participants will get a better understanding of how sector strategies and career pathways impact roles and responsibilities, as well as how they are critical to reaching the Virginia brand promise. This will include a clear depiction of the role of each agency in the larger system, and how individuals at all occupational levels have a role in system success.

This course is classroom-based and has required pre-work.  Participants will earn a badge upon completion of the Foundations classroom-based course.

Course Length: Pre-Work (2 hours), in-person Foundations classroom course (6 hours in 1 day)

Cross-Regional Discussions

Cross-regional discussions encourage peer sharing to highlight promising practices across regions, identify topics that might be better addressed at the cross-regional or statewide level, and suggest larger patterns of change.

We will post a new question monthly for the next six months, after which additional questions will be developed based on identified needs.
